Many employers will ask this before even considering to invite you to an interview. So make sure there are no spelling mistakes, the format is correct and it makes you look like a star!
Choose What You Like
2 steps down, just a few more to go!
This one is important! I know your first job, or any part time job will be your dream position, but make sure it is something you have an interest in. For example there are plenty of music and events jobs available for students. So if you have a passion for music or working in an energetic environment, this would be the one for you!
Once you have found a few jobs to apply for, tailor your CV and cover letter to each job to increase your chances! I know, I am really spoiling you with all of this secret mumbo jumbo.
Prepare For The Job Interview
Congratulations! You’ve now secured the interview! But oh crap…you need to prepare for it.
Actually, preparing for interviews is quite stress-free. Just follow these simple steps!
- Find out the dress code and sort out an outfit
Is it business smart? Or smart casual? If not, don’t hold back from asking!
- Research the company!
You don’t have to go in neck deep in research, but a look on their website and wikipedia page will help. FYI if it is from wikipedia, make sure the source is reliable!
Do a mock interview with a friend or family member
This helps, especially if it is your first one. Yes it will be slightly weird, awkward and funny, but it will give you the confidence for when you actually have to sit down and do it!
- Prepare questions!
To show enthusiasm, be sure to prepare questions to ask the employer! If you can, avoid asking about the wage or holiday (as this is normally listed in the job description). Example of good questions are…
- How long have you been with the company?
- Can you describe the culture of the company?
- What are the next steps in the interview process?
And voila! You are on your way to getting hired! I hope this has made you feeling inspired to find your next part time job!
